January 19th, 2008 Race 1

In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics category, it was “Fast” Jack Beckman taking the win over Milt Gedo.  Beckman cut a better light and broke out by less as they both went under their dial when they got to the finishing stripe.  In the semi-finals, Beckman defeated John Brooks.  Brooks went red by .003 automatically handing the win overt to Beckman.  Gedo had the bye run in the other semi-final.  Gedo also had received a competition single the round before due to a no show, so luck was definitely on his side up until that final round.  Honorable mention goes out to Ken Hemstreet for having a .002 light and running a 9.275 on a 9.27 dial for a total package of .007 in the first round, and Gary Hairfield for running a 12.931 on his 12.93 dial in the second round.

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E category, it was Kyle Rizzoli taking the win over CW Hoefer in the biggest field in No-E history.  Rizzoli had the better light and was able to force Hoefer to break out at the stripe to take the win.  In the semi-finals, Rizzoli defeated Bernie Cunningham.  Rizzoli had the better light and was able to run closer to his dial to take the win.  In the other semi-final, Hoefer defeated Michael Agnew.  Hoefer had the better light, and was able to get to the stripe first, even though Agnew ran closer to his dial.  Honorable mention goes out to Courtney Glover for having a .003 light in the first round, Church Echmalian for having a .003 light in the first round, Chuck Killian Jr. for running 13.161 on a 13.16 dial in the second round, P700 for running 9.506 on a 9.50 dial in the second round, John Joines for running 13.866 on his 13.86 dial in the second round, 739 for running 12.869 on a 12.86 dial in the second round, 1937 for having a .009 light in the second round, Kyle Rizzoli for having a perfect light in the third round, and Michael Agnew for running a 10.474 on  his 10.47 dial in the fourth round.  Tough luck goes out to L788 for going red by .001 in the second round, Lee Cook for breaking out by .001 in the third round.

In the McGeecams.com SCEDA Junior Dragster category, newcomer to SCEDA, Brianna Blinzler, defeated Chris Nagy in the final.  This was her first SCEDA race after being on the waiting list to get in for quite a long time, but the wait paid off for her.  Although Nagy cut a slightly better light in the final, he broke out at the finish line, taking too big of a stripe, giving Blinzler her first SCEDA win in her first SCEDA Race.  In the semi-finals, Blinzler defeated another newcomer to SCEDA Brett Lenarth.  He had also been on the waiting list for about a year and a half.  Lenarth had the better light, but took too big of a stripe at the finish line giving the win to Blinzler.  In the other semi-final, Nagy defeated Meggie Bohn.  Bohn went red, which handed the win over to Nagy.  Honorable mention goes out to Meggie Bohn for having a .009 light in the first round, Eli Peppmuller for having a .007 light in the first round even though he lost, Jason Dennell for having a .004 light in the first round, Kaylee Fry for having a .003 light in the first round even though she lost to Dennell’s .004, Brett Lenarth for running a 7.926 on his 7.92 dial in the first round, Kyle Nagy for running a 8.902 on his 8.90 dial in the first round, Justin Ball for running 8.907 on his 8.90 dial even though he lost, Tori Brown for running 7.905 on her 7.90 dial even though she lost in the second round, and Chris Nagy for having a .009 light in the third round.  Tough luck for Kaitlyn McGee who went red by .002 in the second round.

November 11th, 2007 Race 10 Recap by Brad Cannon

In the Meziere SCEDA Electronics category, Jay Shelton took the win and the $1000 over John Brooks.  Both cars went red, but Brooks was the slower car, so he was red first and lost.  In the semi-finals, Brooks had the bye run and Shelton defeated Garrett Wiles.  Shelton had the better light and was able to force Wiles to break out by more in an effort to take the stripe and the win.  Kristie Thompson decided that she wanted to run her Junior Comp car in the electronics class, making the first outing of junior comp car in SCEDA Electronics.  Unfortunately, she lost in the first round to Tom Drake, Sr. when she had to abort the run.  Rhobert Strong wound up winning the season championship, with John Brooks second and Garrett Wiles third.

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, Series Champion Chuck Killian, Jr. took the win over fellow friend John Brooks. Yup, that’s the same Brooks that was the runner-up in the Electronics class also. The funny part about this was that Killian was driving a car that he had borrowed from Brooks.  He had a little better light than Brooks in the final to take the win in the double breakout.  Brooks tried to take the stripe and did, but his slower reaction time meant that he broke out by more.  In the semi-finals, Brooks had the ladder bye run (Does anyone see a trend here?), and Killian defeated Bill Perri.  Killian got the win when Perri was unable to get the car started.  Killian came into today knowing that he was in control of his destiny, and he took no chances.  Only having to win a couple of rounds, he decided that he wanted to win the whole race instead.  That’s what I call winning it in style!  When John Joines lost in the first round, it locked up the championship up for Killian.  Honorable mention goes to Rick Reynolds for having a .001 light in the first round and Killian for having a .004 light and running an 8.548 on an 8.58 dial for an .012 package in the second round, and Brooks for running 6.609 on an 6.60.  Tough luck to Reynolds for going red by .002 in the second round, Gary Hairfield for going red by .007 in the second round, and Perri for not being able to get his car started in the semi-finals.

In the McGee Cams SCEDA Junior Dragster Series, Ryan Diosdado took the win over Kaitlyn McGee (who went to the finals on both days!).  Diosdado cut a little better light and was able to get McGee to break out in an effort to get the stripe in order to get the win.  In the semis, Diosdado defeated Sarah Moldenhauer and McGee defeated Katelyn Whynaught.  Diosdado was able to cut a better light and run closer to his dial in order to take the victory.  In the other semi, McGee had a slightly worse light, but Whynaught’s car fell off, giving McGee the opportunity to take the victory.  Meanwhile, season point’s leader Shane Sweeney opened the door up when he lost in the first round both days.  Christian Paul had a shot at catching him, but lost to Chris Nagy in the second round when he had a worse light.  Zach Meziere saw his chance of catching Sweeney fade away when he lost in the second round to race winner Diosdado.  Meziere had the better light, but Diosdado ran closer to his dial.  Nagy was the last car that had a shot at the championship, but lost in the third round to Sarah Moldenhauer in a double breakout affair.  Paul gets an honorable mention for having a .006 light in the first round and running 8.261 on an 8.26 dial for a .007 package (All this on a bye run).  Moldenhauer ran a 7.984 on a 7.98, Meziere for running 8.093 on an 8.09.  Congratulations to Shane Sweeney on becoming the McGee Cams SCEDA Junior Dragster Series Champion.  He had a tough weekend by losing first round both days and having to watch his lead slowly get eaten away.  Luckily for him, he had a big enough lead and was able to gain his first SCEDA championship.

A consolation race was also held for the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series today.  This was for no points, no trophies, just fun.  All of the first round losers had the opportunity to enter if they wanted to.  Avery Brown wound up taking the victory over series champion Shane Sweeney.  Brown had a better light, and was able to defeat Sweeney in a hole shot win.  In the semi-finals, Sweeney defeated Lizzy Halley and Brown defeated Chandler Meziere.  Halley had the better light by a bunch, but was not able to win as her car fell off for some reason, giving Sweeney the win.  In the other semi, Meziere had the better light, but gave the win to Brown when he went under his dial.

Sunday’s race was the final SCEDA race for several of our competitors that have run with SCEDA since the junior dragster category was created. Christian Paul, Katie Hepler and Kristie Thompson all age out this year.  They are great competitors and we hope to see them next year in our Electronic and No E classes!

November 10, 2007 Race 9 Recap by Brad Cannon

In the Meziere SCEDA Electronics class, Gary Hairfield took the win over John Brooks for the $1,000 to win.  Hairfield had a .004 light and ran an 8.428 on an 8.42 dial for a .012 package to take the win.  Brooks was not left a chance to be able to take the stripe or the win.  He was number two in points and this helped his case for keeping it.  Rhobert Strong, who had already locked up the title, was a no show for the weekend.  In the semi-finals, Brooks had the bye and Hairfield defeated Jay Shelton.  Shelton had a better light, but broke out on the other end to lose.

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, Chuck Killian defeated Gary Hairfield in the final round to take the points lead.  Killian had the better light and an 8.508 on an 8.50 dial to take the win.  In the semi-finals, Killian defeated John Mason and Hairfield defeated Jeff Interlicchia.  Killian had the better light and was able to run closer to his dial because Mason’s car fell off big-time.  Hairfield had a better light than did Interlichia and managed to make Interlichia break out in an effort to get the stripe.  The stage was set for Sunday, with Killian moving into first place by two rounds over John Joines, who lost in the first round.  Honorable mention goes out to Jim Wood for having a .008 light and running a 6.528 on a 6.52 dial for a .016 package in the first round.

In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, Zach Meziere took the win over Kaitlyn McGee.  Meziere had the better light and was able to force McGee to break out in an effort to get the stripe.  This also moved Meziere up into third place in the season long points standing, 4 rounds out with one more race to go.  In the semi-finals, McGee defeated #2 in points Christian Paul and Meziere defeated Alexis Jeter.  Paul would go into Sunday’s race 3 rounds back of point’s leader Shane Sweeney who lost in the first round.  McGee had the better light against Paul and was able to take the win, even though Paul ran a little bit closer to his dial.  In the other semi, Meziere defeated Jeter when she went red.  This gave him the opportunity to run the car out, and he ran an 8.090 on an 8.09 dial.  The stage was set for Sunday, with 4 drivers still having a shot at being able to take the title.  Sweeney was 1st, Paul 2nd (three rounds back), Meziere 3rd (four rounds back), and Chris Nagy 4th (needing to win in order to force a runoff between himself and Sweeney).  Honorable mention to Alexis Jeter for having a .007 light in the second round, and Jason Dennell for having a .002 light in the third round, Ian Perri for running a 7.996 on a 7.99 dial in the first round, and Kaitlyn McGee for running 7.968 on an 7.96 dial in the third round.

Also on this day, a consolation race was held for the first round losers of the Meziere Electronics and the Mickey Thompson No-E categories.  This was a combined race between the two categories.  Vic Hobbs, with his 12.20 truck in the 1/8th, took the win in the final over Matt Gross.  He won when Gross went red.  John McCormick was the semi-finalist, but broke out in an effort to take the stripe for the loss.

August 19th Race 6 Recap by Brad Cannon

In the Meziere SCEDA Pro Electronics, Charlie Boyd managed to take the win over points leader Rhobert Strong.  Boyd ran on his dial with a 4 and was able to defeat Strong, even though he had a better light, because he broke out in an effort to not lose the stripe.  In the Semis, both cars essentially got bye runs.  Strong had the ladder bye and Boyd got a bye when Gerald Palacios was not able to get his car to start.  It is also worth mentioning that this is Boyd’s first victory in a dragster!

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E, Courtney Glover defeated Gabriel Torres in the final.  This was Torres second final in as many days, but neither day did he walk away with the win.  Glover cut a better reaction time and ran right on his dial with a 7 to defeat Torres.  In the semi-finals, Glover defeated Danny Gonzalez, who was riding a motorcycle; Torres managed to defeat Piper Slone who was driving a Chrysler 300.  How cool would it have been to have a motorcycle and a Chrysler 300 in the final?  That would definitely be something that you don’t see every day.  Glover defeated Gonzalez when he went red.  If Gonzalez had gone red, he probably still would have lost because Glover ran right on his dial with a 6.  Torres managed to take out Slone and the Chrysler in the other semi by cutting a better light.  This was all that he needed to take the win.  Points leader Chuck Killian Jr. managed to make it to the quarterfinals before he lost even though he was running in a borrowed car since he had blown up his motor the previous day.  He lost to Stone when he went red by .007.

In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, Sami Ball defeated Christian Paul.  Ball had an excellent weekend, as she was Saturday’s runner-up.  She cut a better light than Paul and that gave her the win when Paul broke-out in an effort to take the stripe.  In the semi-finals, Ball defeated Brad Cannon and Paul defeated Jimmy Morosan.  Ball cut a perfect light in the semi-final and managed to advance to the final when Cannon went red by .008.  In the other semi, Paul defeated Morosan in a double breakout.  Paul cut the better light and was able to break out by the lesser amount as Morosan took the stripe.  Some people may say that these are only Jr. Dragsters and they are only kids, but there were 5 double 0 lights throughout eliminations and the one perfect light by Samantha Ball.  This was also a big day in the points as Kristie Thompson defeated points leader Shane Sweeney in the first round in a double breakout.

August 18th Race 5 Recap by Brad Cannon

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E, Garrett Hoefer defeated Jeff Interlichia.  Interlichia cut a better light than Hoefer, but his car was not able to run on his dial, giving Hoefer the win.  In the semi-finals, Hoefer defeated Ryan Willoughby and Interlichia defeated Bill Perri.    Hoefer won when Willoughby went red by .003.  Interlichia cut a better light than Perri and was able to capture the victory when Perri broke out in the effort to get the stripe.  Ryan Willoughby had a perfect light in the second round against Cynthia Lang.

Overall, this was a great race.  Honorable mention goes to semi-finalist Larry Glor for having a .008 package in the first round against Doug Kautsky.  Glor had a .006 light and ran 10.252 on a 10.25.

In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, Kaitlyn McGee took the win over Jimmy Morosan.  McGee got the better light off the starting line, and that gave her the advantage to win.  She ran .001 further away from her dial than did Morosan, but her light was better, giving her the win.  In the semi-finals, Morosan defeated Zach Meziere and McGee defeated Ian Perri.  Morosan cut a better light than did Meziere and was able to run closer to his dial-in.  This gave him the advantage that he needed to win the round.  In the other semi, McGee defeated Perri when he when red by .024.  This automatically gave the victory to McGee.  In the first round, it is worth mentioning that Nick Wimer had some hard luck when he went red by .001 to Sami Ball.  Hard luck also went to Katelyn Whynaught when she broke out by .001 in the first round to eventual semi-finalist Zach Meziere.  Also in the first round, Luke Diaz ran right on his dial to defeat Tyler Price, who broke out.

February 3, 2007 By Brad Cannon

Event number 1 was started this morning at the California Speedway in Fontana.  With the large turnout of participants (SCEDA, Pro Gas, Super Street, Super Comp, and Top Comp) the race was not able to be completed because it got too dark.

The number one qualifier in "McGee Cams Junior Dragster" was Sarah Lockhart, who received a bye in the first round.  Amazingly, Sarah missed the first time trial session, as she had to help her Dad replace her engine.  In  the "Bob's Transmission Dial Rite" the team going closest to their dial without going too quick wins all the money collected.  In the "Meziere Enterprises Pro Electronics" it was "Bullet Bob" Wilson with a .004 over winning the money, while Josh Davis with a .000!! won the money in the "Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-E".

According to the track manager, the race will be continued tomorrow morning starting at 8AM.  The day will start with the "McGee Cams Junior Dragsters" at 8:00 AM.  The plan is to finish out Saturday's race and then move in to Sunday's race.

February 4th Race 2 Recap by Brad Cannon

In the Meziere SCEDA Pro Electronics, John Brooks took the victory over Justin Davis.  Brooks had a 0.007 light in the finals and ran over his dial by 0.024 to take the win over Davis, who cut a worse light than Brooks.  In the semi-finals, Davis had the bye run and Brooks defeated Sarah Kelso.  Brooks had a great light again and that gave him the stepping-stone to defeat Kelso.  The two drivers that came the furthest would be Devon Hilton of Vancouver, WA and Mark Dawson of Sutherlin, OR.

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E, Dwayne Eastridge took the win over race 1 winner Chuck Killian Jr.  Killian went red by 0.022 in the final automatically giving the victory to Eastridge, who ran right on his dial-in with a 9.  In the semi-finals, Killian had the bye run and Eastridge defeated Valerie Houmard.  Eastridge had a 0.004 light and that gave him the edge he needed to defeat Houmard.  Bill Perri of Las Vegas, NV, was the person that came the furthest to compete in this class.

In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, Shane Sweeney, who was the runner-up in race 1, took the win over Elizabeth Halley.  Sweeney cut a better reaction time and that was all he needed to take the win over Halley, who ran closer to her dial-in.  In the semi-finals, Sweeney defeated Aubree Greene.  He cut a better light and that gave him the advantage that he needed to take the victory.  In the other semi-final, Halley defeated Matt Fischle.  Fischle went red by 0.002 automatically giving the victory to Halley.  Honorable mentions goes to Ryan Diosdado for having a perfect light in the second round and Brenda Seraphine for running right on her dial-in in the second round.  The two teams that had to come the furthest to race with us were Rob Hoffman, who came from Tacoma, WA, and Ian Perri, who came from Las Vegas, NV.

February 3 Race 1 Recap by Brad Cannon

In the Meziere SCEDA Pro Electronics, Rhobert Strong took the win over Guy Johnson in the Finals.  Both cars were close in reaction times, but Johnson broke out in the effort to get the stripe.  This gave the win to Strong.  In the semi-finals, Strong defeated Jack Beckman.  Strong had a 0.018 package in the semi against Beckman.  Johnson had the bye-run in the other semi-final.  The two drivers that came the furthest would be Devon Hilton of Vancouver, WA and Mark Dawson of Sutherlin, OR.

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E, Chuck Killian Jr. took the win over Bernie Cunningham.  Cunningham went red in the final giving the win to Killian Jr.  In the semi-finals, Killian Jr. defeated Kevin Houmard.  Both competitors had great reaction times, but Killian Jr. was able to run a little closer to his dial to take the win.  Cunningham had a bye-run in the other semi-final to advance to the final round.  It is also worth mentioning that Cunningham had numerous great lights in eliminations.  Bill Perri of Las Vegas, NV, was the person that came the furthest to compete in this class.

In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, Jimmy Morosan took the win in the final over Shane Sweeney.  Both cars were even off the line with Morosan running closer to his dial in on the other end in the double breakout.  In the semi-finals, Morosan defeated Christian Paul in a double breakout.  Morosan had the starting line advantage and was able to run closer to his number to take the win.  In the other semi, Sweeney defeated Ian Perri in a double breakout.  Sweeney cut a better light, forcing Perri to break out by more in an effort to get the stripe.  In the first round, Sara Lockhart had a perfect reaction time on the bye run.  The two teams that had to come the furthest to race with us were Rob Hoffman, who came from Tacoma, WA, and Ian Perri, who came from Las Vegas, NV.

Since 1971, SCEDA has been promoting events in Southern California.  For 2007, we have made some changes to the SCEDA program in hopes of increasing our car counts.  After taking a survey, most participants responded that they wanted to see some changes, so we are implementing them for this season.  We hope that the changes will make for a more successful program, where we can increase car counts and therefore increase the payouts.  SCEDA pays out 80% for Electronics and NoE!

NEW for 2007

Electronics (6.50 to 13.99) and No-E  (7.50 to 21.99):  We lowered the ET in Electronics to 6.50 to accommodate the faster cars that want to participate.  Cross talk will be available for electronics.

First round pairings based on reaction time in the last time trial.  If you do not make the last time trial, you will be put on at the end of the ladder.

No buy backs:  We will attempt to have a consolation race with Electronics and No-E combined, time and track permitting, for those that go out first round.  Cost will be $15 - winner takes all.

SCEDA fee must be paid before you make any runs:  The SCEDA fee remains at $100 per day for Electronics and $50 per day for No-E.  There are no other association fees or membership fees.  SCEDA is open to all racers who fall into Electronics and No-E! Track fees apply for a tech card and spectator entry.  Please come to the SCEDA pit area to take care of your entry fee early - look for the SCEDA banner.  If you have not paid prior to the run, you will not be permitted to make a time trail and you will forfeit that time trial session – no exceptions!  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

8 out of 10 races will count towards the championship.  If a race cancels for any reason, it will be considered a throw out and no points will not be awarded at a cancelled race.

We look forward to a great season with SCEDA Electronics and No-E!  If you have any questions, please call Staci Cannon at 1-888-488-RACE (7223) or visit us on the web at www.sceda.com.

Thanks again for your support and see you at the Auto Club Dragway February 3rd and 4th!
